• Food Intolerance is a condition in which the body cannot digest certain foods normally, but symptoms do not appear immediately. Therefore, the type of food that is allergic cannot be identified. This is different from acute allergic reactions that show symptoms in a short period of time. Although food intolerance is not severe, it can cause chronic symptoms. Therefore, the root cause should be investigated to treat the symptoms properly.

Causes

Food intolerance can be caused by many factors, but the 2 most common causes are:

• The body lacks the enzymes necessary for digesting that food, making it unable to digest and absorb it effectively.
• The body is sensitive to certain substances in food, such as additives or substances that occur naturally in food. Symptoms will be worse when eating too much of that type of food.

Common symptoms

• Bloating or constipation
• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Cough
• Runny nose
• Body aches
• Fatigue
• Itchy rash or hives

Although these symptoms can be caused by food allergies and other health problems, if the symptoms are frequent or severe, you should see a doctor for treatment.
