General information about knee osteoarthritis screening
- Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the cartilage on the knee joint deteriorates in various forms, such as an uneven joint surface, joint cracking, or excessively soft cartilage, which reduces the movement of the knee joint.
- Normally, the knee joint consists of 3 bones: the tibia, the femur, and the patella. The surface of all 3 bones is smooth and shiny, so when moving the knee joint, there is no friction, no noise, or pain. If you have these symptoms, it is likely due to knee osteoarthritis, and it may become more severe. If there is no change in behavior or treatment
What causes osteoarthritis?
The causes of osteoarthritis can be divided into 2 main causes as follows:
- Idiopathic degeneration is a condition caused by the deterioration of the cartilage surface due to age, which is related to increasing age, weight, female gender, and genetics.
- Degeneration with known causes, such as having had an accident, having injuries to joints and tendons, chronic injuries to the knee from work or playing sports, including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, septic arthritis, endocrine diseases, etc.
