Service Preparation
- Get enough sleep about 6-8 hour
- Refrain from taking certain medications or dietary supplements 1 week before the procedure such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, ponstan, vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo leaves, ginseng, St. John's wort, garlic oil because it affects the anticoagulant drug (consult with your your physician before stopping the medication)
- Abstain from alcoholic beverages for at least 2-3 days
- Stop taking NSAIDs before and after PRP injections for a period of 1 week
- Drink plenty of water the day before the injection
- If you are sick , please avoid the injection until the symptom is fully recover
Post-Care Treatment
- After the injection, there may be pain and stiffness at the injection site. A cold compress should be applied for about 48 hours in conjunction with taking pain relievers such as paracetamol.
- Steroids and anti-inflammatory drugs should be discontinued for at least 2 weeks, but if there is pain, paracetamol painkillers can be taken with also cold compresses
- Avoid activities that cause trauma to the injection area
Who cannot perform PRP injections
- PRP injection must collect the blood of patients with osteoarthritis themselves to centrifuge the platelets. Therefore, people with platelet problems cannot be treated with this method
- Patients with low platelet count or abnormal platelet function
- Cancer patients especially leukemia and bone cancer
- Patients who are taking antiplatelet or fibrinolytic drugs
