Hepatitis B vaccine package 3 doses - B care Medical Center
General information
Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis B is caused by infection with the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), which is a very dangerous virus. If infected and not treated, it can lead to chronic inflammation, liver failure, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. It can be transmitted through birth, contact with the blood or open wounds of an infected person, having sex with an infected person, and sharing sharp tools or personal items such as needles, razors, or toothbrushes.
Hepatitis B vaccine
- It can be called the first cancer vaccine because it can help prevent liver cancer, which is a consequence of the hepatitis B virus, which causes up to 80% of liver cancers and is the second leading cause of death from all cancers.
- The hepatitis B vaccine consists of a protein from the surface of the virus (HBsAg), which does not cause hepatitis B infection, but stimulates immunity in the body. It can be injected as a preventive measure from birth. The injection is the same as for adults, with a total of 3 injections. After the first injection, the second injection is given 1 month, and the third injection is given 5 months after the second injection.
- When the hepatitis B vaccine is given in 3 injections, most people's bodies can build up to 97% of immunity and can prevent infection for life. However, about 1-2 months after receiving the 3 injections, a blood test should be done to confirm immunity to the hepatitis B virus. If there is still no immunity, an additional vaccination should be given as advised by the doctor.
Who should receive the hepatitis B vaccine?
- Newborns, children, and adolescents who were not vaccinated at birth.
- People who have been in close contact with patients with hepatitis B, medical personnel, and people working in hospitals.
- Patients with chronic liver disease.
- Patients with chronic kidney disease who are receiving dialysis.
- Patients who frequently receive blood.
- People who inject drugs.
- People who have to travel to areas where the disease is prevalent.
- People who are at risk of the disease due to risk factors related to sexual behavior, such as homosexuality or having multiple partners.
Since each type of hepatitis is caused by a different virus, each type of hepatitis vaccine can only protect against the strain of virus that was injected. Therefore, if it is necessary to get a hepatitis vaccine, the type of vaccine should be specified correctly. Currently, there are hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines combined in the same injection. You can ask for more details from the doctor or hospital where you want to get vaccinated.
