D&C is the use of medical equipment through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity to stop bleeding in cases of miscarriage and abnormal uterine wall growth and heavy bleeding. D&C helps in diagnosis by collecting tissue from the uterine cavity for pathological examination to find the cause of abnormal bleeding.

Post-D&C care After D&C, patients should:

• Get enough rest.
• Avoid strenuous activities.
• Use sanitary pads instead of tampons.
• Take a warm bath instead of soaking in water.
• Avoid having sex.
• Inform the doctor if you have pain, heavy bleeding, or fever.

Preparation before receiving treatment

• Avoid food and water after midnight or about 8-12 hours. In case the doctor will use anesthesia, someone should accompany you because after the D&C, the patient will feel weak and dizzy.
• You should inform the doctor about your history of drug allergies and current medications.
• Inform the doctor about any chronic diseases before receiving the D&C.
• Prepare sanitary pads to wear after the D&C because there will be vaginal bleeding.
