A new, non-live shingles vaccine - Recombinant Zoster Vaccine (RZV). It is 97% effective preventing shingles in adults aged 50 years and older. It is effectivly in preventing nerve pain (PHN = Postherpetic neuralgia) 91.2% when followed for up to 10 years, it was found 89% effective in preventing shingles.

Service Recommendation

It is recommended for adults aged 50 years and over. It should be 2 injections with 2-6 months apart
A person who is over 18 years old at higher risk of developing shingles than normal for example, people with immune system problems with Steroid drug users and those receiving radiology or chemotherapy treatment. It should be 2 injections with 1-2 months apart.
There is no need to test for immunity (Varicella IgG). It can be given to people who have or have not previously had chickenpox.
In the case of having shingles before, it can be given at least 6 months after recover
