Chickenpox vaccine

It is a vaccine made from a weakened virus. Most people who are vaccinated will not get the disease. Only a small number may get chickenpox, but they will have fewer symptoms and complications than those who are not vaccinated.

Who “should” get the chickenpox vaccine?

People who have never had chickenpox before.
Children under 13 years old, get vaccinated 2 times, the first at 12-18 months, the second at 4-6 years old, or at least 3 months after the first injection.
Adolescents and adults aged 13 years and older, get vaccinated 2 times, at least 1 month apart.

Who “should not” get the chickenpox vaccine?

People with the following conditions: Consult a doctor before getting vaccinated.

Have an immunodeficiency condition, such as HIV infection.
Have cancer or are undergoing cancer treatment, whether by radiation or chemotherapy.
Take medications that affect the body's immune system, such as steroids.
Have received blood or blood components.
People who regularly take aspirin.
If you have a fever or an acute illness, you should postpone getting vaccinated. Wait until you recover before getting vaccinated. If you have a minor cold without a fever, you can get vaccinated.

Possible side effects after getting vaccinated against chickenpox

It may cause a severe allergic reaction. However, severe allergic reactions from vaccines are very rare.
Reactions that may occur after vaccination include pain, swelling and redness at the injection site, low-grade fever, and a rash similar to chickenpox, but will not be severe and will heal on its own.
If you have pain, swelling and redness at the injection site, you can apply a cold compress. If you have a low-grade fever, you can take a fever-reducing medication. However, if you have any other abnormalities, you should consult a doctor.

Note

Women who get vaccinated against chickenpox should use birth control for at least 3 months after vaccination.
Women who are breastfeeding, consult a doctor before getting vaccinated.
